LIVONIA, MICH. – Mary Philimona, president of the Black Student Union organization, fellow students, and their advisors, Jesse Cox and Mercedes Williams visited the Solanus Casey Center, on Feb. 24. The students, from Detroit, Gary, Indiana, and Chicago spoke to a gathering of some 60 people; each shared their story of dealing with racism.
Sr. Janet talked about racism as a sin and the need for white people to address power, and fix the systems that keep racism alive, i.e. legislation and education.
This was an outstanding opportunity to engage with the Capuchin priests and secular Franciscans. Photos are of the students and advisors.
