LIVONIA, MICH. - When it came time for Paige Kubitski, 2019 Madonna nursing graduate, to choose who would pin her nursing pin on her during Madonna's nursing graduation ceremony, she immediately thought of Lois Merwin, her boyfriend's 99-year-old grandmother. Merwin served as an operating room nurse in Battle Creek at the tail end of World War II. Inspired by Merwin's stories and her dedication to caring for so many soldiers, Kubitski felt she was the perfect nurse for the occasion, as long as she was up for it.
