A member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Medaille, Sr. Helen is best known for her bestselling book Dead Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty in the United States, which was adapted into an Academy Award–winning film and an acclaimed opera. For more than four decades, Sister Helen has ministered to people on death row, supported victims’ families, and worked tirelessly to educate the public on issues of justice, mercy, and reconciliation. Her life and work continue to inspire meaningful dialogue and action around compassion, faith, and social justice.
