LIVONIA, MICH. – Madonna University confirmed its decision to continue its test-optional admissions policy for the 2024-25 school year. This means that prospective students will not be required to submit ACT or SAT scores for admission, although they are welcome to do so if they have taken the exams. This move by Madonna University is a testament to its commitment to providing equal opportunities for all students and recognizing the challenges they faced during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The university initially adopted the test-optional policy due to the limited access students had to standardized testing during the pandemic. Recognizing that many students faced academic disruptions and were unable to receive proper test preparation, Madonna University believes it is unfair to base admissions solely on test scores during these extraordinary times. Instead, the university takes a holistic approach to the admissions process, considering various factors that contribute to a student’s potential for success.
Madonna University prides itself on its caring community, personalized education, values-based experience, and service-oriented career preparation. This holistic approach to admissions ensures that students are not denied the opportunity to receive a Madonna education solely based on a single bad test score. The university firmly believes that every student has unique qualities that contribute to their academic journey and future success and has found no evidence to support the notion that students with good test scores perform better throughout their college careers. In fact, relying on test scores alone can be unfair, as it fails to consider a student’s potential, motivation, and character.
Trish Everett, Director of Undergraduate Admissions at Madonna, shared her perspective, stating, “I don’t believe in holding things against people that are beyond their control. A GPA and test score do not give the whole picture of a student. What truly matters is finding the right fit between the student and the university.”
Starting with the fall 2024 admissions cycle, Madonna University will require all direct from high school applicants to submit an essay as part of their application process. This additional requirement aims to provide a deeper understanding of a student’s aspirations, character, and potential to contribute to the Madonna community.
But don’t worry, future Crusaders! The Madonna community is here to help students shine. Madonna's “Essay Express” workshop warmly welcomes all high school students aiming to make their application shine. Join forces with the Office of Admissions and Writing Center for an enriching experience that equips students with the tools and knowledge to craft an essay that reflects their unique voice, experiences, and aspirations. Essay Express workshops are being offered on October 4th (6:00 – 8:00 pm) and October 14th (1:00 – 3:00 pm). Pre-registration is required. Students should be sure to bring along an open mind and any current essay ideas or drafts they may have as this is a chance to make their college application unforgettable.
