LIVONIA, MICH. – Maurice Goka, a junior at Madonna University, was recently awarded the Peter J. Moloney Mathematics Scholarship, which recognizes an outstanding student in the mathematics program at Madonna.

Goka studies mathematics for secondary education and hopes to become a high school math teacher and basketball coach when he graduates.

"I want to apply what I'm learning in the classroom to help as many students as I can to create a love for math," Goka said. Expressing his gratitude, Goka described the scholarship as very helpful in paying for school and "for my future as a math teacher."

Goka is the first-ever recipient of the scholarship, which was started this fall by Madonna Alumna Angela Moloney '97, and her mother in memory of Angela's father, Peter J. Moloney, a former associate professor of mathematics at Madonna who passed away in 2022.
