LIVONIA, MICH. – There was a full house at Grosse Pointe War Memorial on Sunday, February 19, for Art Instructor Deborah Lubera Kawsky's lecture, The Mind of a Muralist.
The talk and slide presentation explored mural-making in Metro Detroit featuring conversations with artists/ muralists Dr. Hubert Massey and Ijania Cortez.
Kawsky, along with Robin Ward, Djennin Cassab, and an amazing group of Madonna University students worked with Massey on a mural project for St. Peter Episcopal Church in Detroit. The lecture included Massey's most recent mural, part of a series for Stellantis Corporation.
On March 9, another crowd gathered at the Lorenzo Cultural Center in Macomb, MI for Kawsky's Detroit's Design DNA lecture. The presentation is part of an ongoing lecture series, Creative Michigan: Making the Mitten Modern, focused on the role of Michigan in midcentury modern design. The lecture series coordinates with an amazing exhibition Michigan Modern: An Architectural Legacy that is still open to the public.
