LIVONIA, MICH. – A group of Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) students, working with the senior population of La Sed, a Spanish community in Southwest Detroit, developed an emergency planning across the lifespan program for the older adult population. The resources the students developed are aimed at raising awareness of the importance of emergency preparedness of older adults for such events as extreme weather, fire safety, active shooter, and loss of power.

The students also created a public service announcement (PSA) video. The nursing students won the Michigan Public Health Association's (MPHA) Public Health Nursing section award for their project, and were honored on March 19th at the MPHA State Conference.

The emergency planning resources are available on Facebook, and the Health PSA, produced in collaboration with Adjunct Nursing Faculty Member Josephine Foley, Rn, MS, CCM is also available to watch on Facebook
