MY Financial Aid

 Apply for Aid (FAFSA)

You must apply for financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for Federal, State, and most Madonna University aid programs.

Application Procedure
The first step in applying for financial aid is to acquire your FSA ID. If you are a dependent student, your parents must also apply for a separate FSA ID. The FSA ID serves as your electronic signature and allows you to submit your FAFSA online.

The FAFSA must be completed for each academic year and can be submitted as early as October 1. We recommend that you apply by March 1 of every year.

Madonna University Federal School Code: 002282

Helpful Hints for Completing the FAFSA

  • Gather documents needed to complete the FAFSA. If you have not yet completed a tax form, you may estimate this information to ensure that you will meet the suggested filing date.
  • An improperly completed form may cause delays in processing.
  • Round amounts to the nearest dollar.
  • Complete all questions. If a question doesn't apply, enter a zero (unless otherwise instructed).
  • Be certain your Social Security Number (SSN) is correct by using the number directly from your Social Security card. Your application will be delayed if the SSN is incorrect and you will be required to provide additional documentation (i.e. copy of your birth certificate or Social Security card).
  • Be sure to list your date of birth accurately on your application, or it may be rejected.
  • Indicate the Madonna University Federal School Code of 002282 on the FAFSA.
  • Indicate whether you plan to live with parents, on or off campus.
 Tuition

One of the most affordable private, liberal arts schools in the country, Madonna University’s tuition is half the national average for similar institutions.

Scholarships
We’re proud that more than 85 percent of Madonna University students receive some type of financial aid, and we award some 900 scholarships annually – both merit and endowed

All new, incoming students are considered for merit scholarships at the time of admission. Returning students can apply for endowed scholarships each February/March for the next academic year.

 Federal and State Aid Programs
 Eligibility Requirements

Changes to the Federal Student Aid programs became effective with the 2012-13 school year. Please familiarize yourself with the requirements for federal student aid programs.

You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for federal student aid programs awarded through the U.S. Department of Education.

Basic Eligibility Requirements
• Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
• Have a high school degree or GED
• Be registered with Selective Service if you are male
• Have a valid Social Security Number
• Not have been convicted of a drug offense
• Must be enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate program
• Must demonstrate satisfactory academic progress
• Must not be in default on a federal student loan and do not owe a refund on a federal student grant.

A minimum of half-time enrollment is required for most financial aid programs.

Enrollment Status Undergraduate Graduate
Full Time 12+ credits 9+ credits
¾ Time 9 – 11 credits 6 – 8 credits
½ Time 6 – 8 credits 4 – 5 credits
Less than ½ time 1 – 5 credits 1 – 3 credits
 How Enrollment Affects Aid

Financial aid is based on enrollment status (actual number of hours enrolled) at the end of the Drop/Add period. Financial aid awards may be adjusted for students who add, drop, or withdraw from classes during the academic year.

Graduate Students:
Only graduate level courses (those numbered 5000 & above) will be counted in calculating financial aid eligibility. Pre-requisite undergraduate courses may be counted in determining eligibility if they are required for the degree program and approved by the Graduate School.

Withdrawal: Students who receive Federal financial aid and completely withdraw from courses must have their financial aid eligibility recalculated based on the Federal Financial Aid Withdrawal Policy. As a result, the student may owe money to Madonna University and/or the U. S. Department of Education. Failure to pay back excess funds may result in the loss of all future financial aid.

Students who partially withdraw from courses may have their financial aid eligibility recalculated, which may result in an adjustment to the amount of the aid awarded.

It is extremely important that students consult with the Financial Aid Office before withdrawing from classes.

Drop: Students who register and then drop their classes before they begin will have their financial aid eligibility recalculated based on remaining hours.

Failing Grades: Students who receive a failing grade (F) because they stopped attending the class (unofficial withdrawal) may have their financial aid eligibility recalculated based on remaining hours and/or last date of attendance. As a result, the student may owe money to Madonna University and/or the U. S. Department of Education.

Repeated Courses: Students may only receive Federal financial aid funding for one repetition of a previously passed course. There is no limit on the number of times a student may retake a course if a passing grade is not earned. All repeated courses, including withdrawals from repeated courses, affect Satisfactory Academic Progress for Financial Aid as outlined in the University bulletin. A repeated course along with the original attempt must be counted as attempted credits.

 Net Price Calculator

College costs vary from institution to institution. The net price calculator estimates the net cost to attend college (i.e., the cost minus financial aid). The net cost depends on each student’s eligibility for grants, scholarships, loans, and student employment. To receive financial aid, students must:

Madonna University is one of the most affordable, independent universities in the nation. The annual 2016-17 undergraduate tuition cost is $19,500 based on 30 cr. See current tuition rates. If you have questions regarding the net price calculator, contact the Financial Aid Office at 734-432-5663 or 800-852-4951, ext. 5663.

To estimate the out-of-pocket cost to attend, the net price calculator utilizes a two-step process. First, the calculator adds several costs. Second, the calculator subtracts the median amount of grants and merit scholarships received by students at the institution in question.

Regarding the first step, the net price calculator totals the following costs (several are mere estimates):

  • Tuition
  • Fees
  • Books
  • Housing (Room)
  • Food (Board)
  • Transportation
  • Personal and Miscellaneous Expenses

It is important to note that the net price calculator takes into account indirect costs such as transportation and miscellaneous expenses.

The net price calculator uses data for incoming first-year students who intend to enroll full time. The estimated net price will vary per student according to each student’s particular circumstance (i.e., income, financial need, and number of dependents).

To determine your estimated net cost to attend Madonna University, click the link below and answer the questions that follow. The estimated net price does not include loans or student employment.
