Madonna Students to Present Musical Production of Little Women

March 27, 2018

LIVONIA, Mich. – Performers in Madonna University’s Lyric Theatre Program will present Jason Howland’s musical rendition of Louisa May Alcott’s timeless novel Little Women, April 13-15 at Madonna University’s Kresge Hall. This is the first Lyric Theatre production by guest music/stage director Emily Smokovich, D.M.A.

The musical is a shorthand version of the classic, coming-of-age tale of the four March sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy. With their father away during the American Civil War, the sisters and their beloved mother discover heartache, joy and love in life’s small details.

“Theatre has a great power to cause people to think, and on the best of days, be moved and uplifted. I think Little Women offers that; humor, sadness, hope, and romance,” said Smokovich, adjunct assistant professor in Madonna’s Music Department. “What’s so great about this story is it has endured through the ages, and there are characters to which everyone can relate. It is full of humanity.”

Performances are Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, April 15 at 2 p.m. in Madonna University’s Kresge Hall. General seating tickets are $10 for students and senior citizens, $14 for adults, available online at , or at the door.
