Criminal Justice

The Criminal Justice Department at Madonna University, housed in the College of Social Sciences, has a long history of preparing students for the field of Public Service. The Criminal Justice department affords educational opportunities to pre-service and in-service career persons in law enforcement, corrections and courts as well as many other public service avenues. Since the inception of the program in 1972, over 2400 students have gone through the program, and of that number, more than 90 have achieved the position of chief or director of their respective law enforcement agency. Upon graduation, students are prepared to enter the work force in a variety of fields.


Undergraduate Majors


Criminal Justice, B.S., A.S.
The Criminal Justice Major introduces the student to law enforcement practice and procedure, law, and government. The major covers issues that affect criminal justice practice and students gain an understanding of how to conduct themselves in a variety of professional roles. The Criminal Justice Program consists of 45 hours in the major. Certificates of Completion are also available in addition to Associate and Bachelor Degree paths. The following certificates can be obtained in addition to degrees: Homeland Security, Private Security, Private Investigation, Animal Cruelty Investigation, Spanish for Law Enforcement, Forensic Psychology and Forensic Accounting.

The Criminal Justice Minor offers students a chance to get a broad understanding of law enforcement issues through a wide-variety of course offerings.

Animal Cruelty Investigation Certificate of Completion
The investigation and prosecution of animal cruelty is a priority in today’s society. Madonna University's Animal Cruelty certificate program familiarizes students with the ethical treatment of animals while providing them with the basic skills necessary for investigating and reporting the mistreatment of animals.

Homeland Security Certificate of Completion
The Certificate of Completion in Homeland Security is designed to give students a basic understanding of how our government is protecting our country from terrorist attacks. Students also gain an understanding of the psychology of a terrorist.

The Certificate of Completion in Private Investigation gives students a basic understanding of the field of private investigation. It looks at acceptable practices and methods within the profession. Private investigation is one of the fastest growing fields in America.
