Chairperson, Undergraduate Nursing Program
Nursing faculty embrace the mission of Madonna University and commit to assisting students to develop Christian humanistic values, a spirit of intellectual inquiry, openness to discovery of truth, and readiness to serve others.
The traditional BSN program is offered to eligible students without an RN license. Traditional Madonna University students, who begin their education at Madonna University, transfer students from other academic institutions, and high school graduates are able to embark on this educational path.
The Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing is awarded to students who successfully complete the required curriculum. The curriculum includes 53 cr. in the nursing major and 72 cr. of prerequisite and general education courses offered by other departments. A student entering Madonna University has the opportunity to complete the 125 cr., required for the BSN degree, in four years.
Graduates of the Madonna University program are prepared to apply for licensure as a registered nurse and take the national licensing examination; the NCLEX-RN.
Come to Madonna University to complete your Bachelor of Science in nursing degree! Advanced standing in the nursing program is offered to LPN’s with prior nursing education and experience. The curriculum is the same as for generic students with opportunities for credit by examination for previously acquired knowledge and skills. LPN applicants have the option of taking a standardized National League for Nursing (NLN) exam prior to the first nursing courses. By achieving an acceptable score, you will earn three credits by exam (one for NUR 2830 and two for NUR 3480) at the current credit-by-exam rate which is considerably less than the regular fee for nursing credits. In addition, earning credit by this mechanism will also provide an exemption from participating in the agency portion of NUR 3480. Enhance your professional career by becoming a Madonna nurse!
RN-BSN Degree Completion Program
MSN, RN, BC
RN - BSN
The RN-to-BSN degree completion program is offered through Madonna University’s College of Nursing and Health and provides an opportunity for Registered Nurses (RNs) with an associate or diploma degree to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
There are eight nursing courses in this program, all are offered as a combination of traditional classroom meetings, online formats, and hybrid courses (blend of traditional classroom meetings and online learning). The nursing courses total 22 credits. Other general education and support courses are required; the number of courses and credits vary depending on your previous educational and professional experiences.
The RN-to-BSN degree completion integrates the Franciscan core values of caring, wellness, professionalism, and future focus into the program. The BSN degree can be used as the gateway to higher professional and educational goals.
Madonna University's nursing program provides educational opportunities for registered nurses. Building on the competencies acquired in their education programs, RN's are expected to broaden their nursing theory base and to acquire and demonstrate synthesis of the natural and behavioral sciences. The program prepares them for leadership roles across the continuum of care and for advanced study in nursing and related fields.

The Nursing Simulation Lab provides an innovative learning environment in which nursing students have the opportunity to provide patient care in a simulated environment, refining patient care skills, and techniques to better prepare them for actual patient care experiences. Students develop knowledge and skill acquisition in a realistic, non-threatening environment, become familiar with procedures and equipment, and develop clinical reasoning skills. In the Skills Lab, students demonstrate proficiency in delivering quality and safe nursing care. In the Nursing Simulation Lab, students further develop their nursing skills and demonstrate teamwork, collaboration, and therapeutic communication skills by providing care to high-fidelity simulator patients.
