Why Study Health Sciences at Madonna University?

  • Employment of medical and health services managers is projected to grow 23 percent from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2013).
  • This interdisciplinary major is designed to be a gateway for students who seek unique and exciting new careers in health care.
  • These professionals will support and promote the rights of people in the health care arena, improve community health, and enhance policy initiatives focusing on accessible, safe, and quality care for all.
  • Students complete two semester-long internships during which they will work with teams promoting health in organizations. Our interns are actively sought after by agencies in the community.
  • Students will be learning from experienced professors who are currently working in or have many years of experience working in health care.

This new Bachelor of Science degree was established to promote our mission to provide a value-based career pathway for those who want to improve health care quality, safety across all settings. Health Sciences graduates will demonstrate empathy and compassion towards vulnerable populations which is consistent with the University's Franciscan values of respect for the dignity of each person, solidarity with the poor, and social justice. These graduates will employ health promotion and advocacy theories as the field of health care transforms and new roles evolve.

This innovative, interdisciplinary major has two distinct tracks. Population Health Care Management track prepares graduates for careers in care management, care transitions coordination, health promotion, and patient education. While graduates of the Health Care Informatics and Quality Systems Management track will be able to recognize issues that exist across the health care continuum related to transparency in reporting errors and positively impact a culture of safety and quality in our current health care delivery system.
