Why did you choose Madonna University?

Small class sizes, excellent reputation, close to home.

What do you think makes the experience and education at Madonna special?
Without a doubt the professor-student ratio. Small class sizes were a major factor when choosing a university to attend. It is not often that you develop a personal relationship with your college professors, let alone the Dean of the College of Education; at Madonna- I did!

What have you been doing since graduation, career wise? (graduate school, employer?)
I attended graduate school (at Madonna University) and I have been a secondary educator since graduating with my Bachelor's degree from MU. I have also obtained my Administration Certification from MU.

How has your Madonna degree played a role in your current position?
My Madonna degree prepared me for the challenges of pursuing a job; I was hired immediately following graduation for the first teacher position I applied for. Madonna also prepared me in the content area of reading and literacy practices that were later required of every teacher in state of Michigan, meaning teachers had to attend a class in addition to their certification renewal. I already had the knowledge due to the rigorous course work of Madonna University. The same circumstances apply to my graduate degree from Madonna University.

What has been your most rewarding professional or personal experience since graduating?
My most rewarding moment as a high school teacher occurred last year. A former student decided to drop out of school in order to enter the work force prior to graduation. After having built a positive relationship with this student, I was able to convince that student of the importance of earning a high school diploma and higher education. He graduated in June and has aspirations of attending college in the near future.

Why did you choose Madonna University?
I chose Madonna University because it was close to home and it had an excellent reputation.

What do you think makes the experience and education at Madonna special?
All of my professors were extremely dedicated and passionate professors.  They truly cared about students, which included me the student and the students I would be entrusted with.  The small class size was also a plus for personalized attention.

What have you been doing since graduation, career wise? (graduate school, employer?)
When I first graduated 11 years ago, I started working at Plymouth High School in their FCS department.  I was there for seven years and then I moved over to East Middle School.  I have been here for five years.  Just recently I accepted a position at Ohio University as an associate lecturer and program coordinator.  I will start at OU in August of 2016.

How had your Madonna degree played a role in your current position?
My Madonna degree has led me to a new challenge in my career.  I will be lecturing and also responsible for growing a department.

What has been your most rewarding professional or personal experience since graduating?
My most rewarding experience is that I now will have the opportunity to be like the professors that so greatly inspired me.  It is my turn to inspire the next generations of educators.

Why did you choose Madonna University?
I chose Madonna University's Family and Consumer Science Occupational Endorsement Program for Certified Teachers to enrich my professional practice as an FCS teacher.

What do you think makes the experience and education at Madonna special?
Madonna University offers a welcoming community of students and faculty.  As a non-degree student I was embraced with warmth from my first day on campus.  The faculty in College of Education was truly invested in my program success and professional growth.

What have you been doing since graduation, career wise? (graduate school, employer?)
Since completing the FCS endorsement program at Madonna I have earned my Master’s of Public Administration from Central Michigan University and am currently a doctoral candidate working towards an EdD at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.  I have been teaching FCS at Romulus High School for the past 11 years and also serve as an adjunct assistant professor in the FCS department at Madonna.

How has your Madonna Degree played a role in your current position?
My occupational endorsement from Madonna has undoubtedly elevated my professional practice.  I am more knowledgeable about FCS curriculum and industry standards.  The FCS program of study at Romulus High School is aligned with state and national segments and I advise a robust FCCLA chapter.  I am emerging as a leader in the field, presenting at state and national conferences on a variety of topics related to FCS and Career and Technical Education.

What has been your most rewarding professional or personal experience since graduating?
The most rewarding professional experience since completing my endorsement at Madonna was being named the 2015 Michigan Family and Consumer Science Teacher of the Year.
