Why did you choose Madonna University?
I started my education career at Madonna in Fall of 2011 after graduating from Washtenaw Community College in 2011 with AAS in Childcare Professional. I graduated from Madonna University in the fall of 2012 with a B.Sc. in Child Development. The reason why I choose Madonna was because Madonna’s student to teacher ratio model was very conducive for a great learning experience. Learning in a small classroom environment is very important to me and Madonna University provided that environment for me.

What do you think makes the experience and education at Madonna special?
What makes education and experience special for me at Madonna were the faculty and staff in the College of Education. The staff created an open-learning environment which is perfect for a visual and practical learner like myself. Madonna University was so great because the instructors were very devoted to the students. The instructors were there to listen and work toward the success of the students. Some of the classes that I enjoyed were those classes with hands-on experiences where instructors took extra time to know each student’s learning ability. At Madonna I was able to be who I am while learning and with that, I was able to excel and achieve my goals in all the classes. The entire staff at the College of Education made it possible for me to accomplish my goals and graduating with highest honors.

What have you been doing since graduation, career wise? (graduate school, employer?)
Since graduating from Madonna in 2012, I started my graduate school at Madonna in 2013, majoring in Healthcare Administration Services. Thereafter, I was hired as an Early Childhood Educator at the University of Michigan Children’s Centers. I was working at the University of Michigan when my husband got an employment in one of the hospital in Houston, Texas as a Healthcare IT Trainer. We relocated to Houston, TX in summer of 2015 and I got an employment in one of the Public School District working as a teacher in a special education classroom.

How has your Madonna degree played a role in your current position?
Madonna University prepared me for success in education and in my career while at work and beyond. All the experiences I acquired in Madonna such as practicum, student teaching, interview practice, and all my core classes continue to give me an edge in my current position.

What has been your most rewarding professional or personal experience since graduating?
My most rewarding professional and personal experience since graduating has been coming back to Madonna every semester to give a speech on Diversity and to share my ethnic experiences to the students in one of Dr. Mary Tomczyk’s class. This has been a very rewarding experience to give back to University. In addition, educating young children, nurturing and watching them grow and develop. Finally, I find myself time and time again as a mentor to my peers.

Why did you choose Madonna University?
Having attended parochial school my entire life, Madonna's philosophy and values is what intrigued me most. I appreciated the smaller class sizes which allowed the professors to really get to know their students and provide personalized instruction and guidance throughout their coursework.

What do you think makes the experience and education at Madonna special?
The overall atmosphere is warm and inviting. There is a sense of family and community and professors are invested and committed to the success of their students.

What have you been doing since graduation, career wise? (graduate school, employer?)
Since graduating, I have been working in the Early Childhood field. I served as a Program Director for Rainbow Child Care Center for five years before being promoted to my current position.

How had your Madonna degree played a role in your current position?
Today, in my role as Operations Director at Rainbow, I oversee the regional operations for 120 early childhood programs and counting. I find great satisfaction knowing that the operational decisions I make each day are impacting the lives of nearly 2,300 teachers and 12,000 children and families.

What has been your most rewarding professional or personal experience since graduating?
While attending Madonna, I lived on campus where I served as a Resident Advisor. This was a wonderful opportunity that provided me basic management and people skills that I would carry with me throughout my career. Additionally, while living on campus, I met my husband Kamal, who was a foreign exchange student studying Criminal Justice. We have now been married for 10 years and are raising two wonderful boys ages, 7 and 3.

Why did you choose Madonna University?
Madonna is a well-respected institution and had my desired program. After meeting with advisors, I knew Madonna was a match for me.

What do you think makes the experience and education at Madonna special?
All of the professors in the Early Childhood Department make the students want to succeed. They bring a wealth of knowledge to the classroom and are always encouraging. Being an older student, I never felt out of place.

What have you been doing since graduation, career wise? (graduate school, employer?)
I am now director at Little Friends in Whitmore Lake. Along with administrative duties, I also try to keep my hands in the classrooms as well.

How has your Madonna Degree played a role in your current position?
My education played a big part in obtaining this position. Without the education, I would not have been able to become a director. I am in a position to make changes at the center as we continue to grow.

What has been your most rewarding professional or personal experience since graduating?
I was in my late 40's when I graduated, so that in itself was a huge personal reward. On a professional level, my obtaining the position as director was very rewarding. My experiences at Madonna have led me to where I am and I will always feel grateful to the Early Childhood Department.
